Main Activities Of The Computer Society
Chartered in 1971 to advance various aspects of technology and computer and information science, IEEE Computer Society carries out a number of activities including the organizations of conferences and workshops, operating committees of different specialty, publishing literature that are reviewed by the peers as well as offering support to the local chapters. It has its headquarters in Washington DC and other countries have their own society such as British Computer Society, presently known as The Chartered Institute for IT and The Australian Computer Society.
All these societies deal with word array of activities, including educational activities that include accreditation, continuing education, curriculum development and preparation of training programs. These programs are developed, maintained and evaluated by the Educational Activities Board.
They also engage in professional activities such as developing professional certificate programs as based on the needs of the practitioners in the industry. The Professional Activities Board, which has five committees, runs the Activities: certification, appeal, planning, and two discipline-specific committees; one of Software engineering and the other for Information Technology.
The standard activities include the provision of an organizational framework as well as an environment, conducive for the development of technically excellent standards that will advance not only the theory but also the practice of information processing, computing and science and technology.
The technical activities are managed by the Technical activities Board which serve as the center for the society’s’ activities that are within the technical discipline and it also influences the societies other activities. It is responsible for organizing conferences and workshops to allow people to become active members of their community. The stakeholders have a chance of freely joining the internet society through which they can interact with various people and get free publications and newsletters that have a lot of information on different aspects such as cluster computing.
